If you are in Brevard, Broward, Flagler, Indian River, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, or Volusia counties, you're welcome to apply for membership.

At SCCU, we want to make managing your money as simple as possible, so we offer convenient online account opening services. To begin the account opening process, please have the Social Security numbers and U.S. mailing addresses available for each account owner.

We have a range of checking accounts designed to help you conveniently manage your money and reach your financial goals, including Free Checking, Student Checking, and Health Savings Checking. SCCU also offers Free Business Checking, and Business Interest Checking to help you run your business.

Each type of account has its advantages, so for many people, the answer is yes. An interest checking account is an excellent strategy for earning some interest on money to which you want to have easy access, while the money in a savings account is typically meant to remain in the account without frequent withdrawals. When comparing the two types of accounts, consider your own saving and spending goals and the account features that are most important to you. At SCCU, we offer several types of savings accounts to choose from, including our Share Savings Account (which is the primary account needed to establish your credit union membership), plus Interest Checking. Contact us if you'd like more information about the advantages of these accounts.

In addition to allowing you to earn interest on the money in your account, your Interest Checking Account also offers:
• A free Visa® Debit Card with fraud protection and unlimited transactions
• Unlimited teller withdrawals
• Unlimited check writing
• No direct deposit requirement
• Online Banking and Mobile Banking
• Online statements and account alerts
• Free ATM transactions at any of SCCU's convenient locations
• Available overdraft services

An interest checking account combines two popular features in one account: Your money is just as accessible as it would be in a traditional, non-interest bearing account, and you earn interest on the money in your account. Interest checking is a good place to keep cash that you expect to spend in the short-term. At SCCU, you can use the funds from your Interest Checking Account just as you would use funds from your SCCU Free Checking Account.

Both of these checking accounts can be opened with a $25 minimum deposit, but the SCCU Free Checking Account does not have a minimum daily balance requirement. Our Interest Checking Account requires a low minimum daily balance of $1,500. The monthly balance fee on your Interest Checking Account is $15, which is waived if the minimum daily balance is met.

Before you compare high-interest checking accounts, it's helpful to understand what most of these types of accounts have in common. Most financial institutions will require you to maintain a certain minimum balance in order to avoid fees, and many will require you to sign up for direct deposit and/or make a specified number of monthly debit transactions.

When looking for an interest checking account, interest rates and required minimum balances are important, but you should also compare other features, such as whether the financial institution offers a free debit card, online banking and mobile banking capabilities, free ATM transactions, overdraft services and other conveniences. At SCCU, our Interest Checking Account has no direct deposit requirement, easy online account access with mobile banking and online banking, and free e-statements.
